Track Information

Wangaratta-Race-Book-Layout.gif

Wangaratta Greyhound Racing Club moved from Centennial Park North Wangaratta, to Avian Park in 1974 to share facilities with the Harness Racing Club.

The original 540 metre track was replaced by the new 630 metre track in late 2001.

The new track was officially opened by Board Chairman Jan Wilson on 17 th January 2002.

Race distances were changed from 400m and 640m to the current 403m , 474m and 650 metres with the opening of the new track. Racing is now conducted in the new Friday morning timeslot in conjunction with New Zealand Racing with full Sky Channel and TAB coverage. Meetings generally commence around 10.30am.

The stakemoney equalization for all country and Metropolitan Clubs together with other GRV initiatives now sees all clubs placed on a level playing field. Wangaratta will share in the boom in Development Funds made available by the Board as part of their long term vision for the industry. The Boards ongoing maintenance and development programs will see a dramatic improvement in facilities at most tracks. 280 metre grass straight track and 10 metre filtered pool available to local trainers make Wangaratta a complete package for trainers.
